Summary and Actions
The DETURSAT project arises within the “Heritage for Development” working group of the Efficient Habitat Cluster AEICE and focuses on investigating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to interpret satellite images and detect human pressure in natural environments affected by tourism, through the indicator of the presence of vehicles.
The research focuses on the interpretation of remotely sensed images with the objective of developing predictive models using AI.
These models seek to create tools for managing tourist flows in natural environments, adapting to the carrying capacity of these spaces and reducing environmental impacts.
These tools will be useful for rural tourism and natural areas, offering managers and companies the ability to adjust their offers to the real foreseeable demand each year.
General Objective
The main objective is to explore the capacity of satellite remote sensing to generate predictive models of tourism pressure on specific elements of the natural environment.
This will allow mitigating negative impacts and moving towards sustainability, adjusting demand to actual supply and providing effective management systems for pressure flows and their load on the environment.
