Madrid, July 23, 2024 – Agforesta startup pioneer in the application of geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoIA) to build sustainable smart cities, has announced its collaboration with the AgroTech Campus of ENIIT, INNOVA IT Business School, to promote training in advanced technologies with the aim of increasing the productivity of the agri-food sector through the Master’s Degree in Agro 4.0.
Agforest experts will provide students of the Agro 4.0 Master’s Degree taught by the AgroTech Campus and certified by the Catholic University of Avila (UCAV), with the necessary tools and knowledge to address the challenges of the agri-food sector through the use of geospatial data and artificial intelligence. This will enable students to develop practical and theoretical skills in the application of GeoAI technologies, which are fundamental for the sustainable transformation of agriculture.
Credit, production and security: the challenges of the agricultural sector
The share of the agri-food sector in the Spanish economy is three percentage points higher than in the European Union (EU) (9.2% of GDP in Spain compared to 6.6% in the EU). Given the current economic situation, the sustainability of the sector is influenced by three fundamental pillars: accessibility to credit; increased productivity; and the ability to be insured against extreme climatic phenomena that put its activity at risk.
In this context, geospatial data and artificial intelligence (AI) will be essential to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the agri-food sector. That is why Agforest will train AgroTech Campus students in the best practices to accompany large and small farmers in this challenge.
10 % year-on-year productivity increase
In 2022 alone, 2,500 new satellites were launched into orbit. The processing of geospatial data through predictive algorithms and artificial intelligence analytics is capable of providing valuable information for decision making in the agri-food sector. One of the main applications that Agforest makes of this technology.
Having worked with a large number of relevant actors in the sector, the company has been able to demonstrate that this technology can increase productivity by 10% year-on-year, reducing the inputs required by up to 20%. AgroTech Campus students will be able to learn this discipline from Agforest experts, who have also developed a model for analyzing the financial vulnerability arising from investment in agricultural production.
Pablo Quesada, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and co-founder of Agforest, explains that. “Sustainability is played out 1,000 kilometers from the ground. We have the ability to access unpublished information with a positive impact on the agri-food sector. We are excited to collaborate with ENIIT’s AgroTech Campus to raise awareness and train the students of the Master in Agro 4.0 in the most innovative GeoAI practices. We are convinced that this collaboration will be a catalyst for the technological advancement of the agro sector”.
For his part, David Sáez, director of ENIIT (Innova IT Business School) adds that “the Master in Agro 4.0. is a totally different program applicable from the first to the last module, which also has the participation of top-level companies such as Agforest and ‘use cases’ with the companies of the sector located at the forefront of innovation”.
