{"id":8046,"date":"2025-10-02T10:56:26","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T10:56:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agforest.ai\/en\/valladolid-asbestos-inventory-by-remote-sensing\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T08:44:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T08:44:39","slug":"valladolid-asbestos-inventory-by-remote-sensing","status":"publish","type":"caso-de-exito","link":"https:\/\/agforest.ai\/en\/case-studies\/valladolid-asbestos-inventory-by-remote-sensing\/","title":{"rendered":"Valladolid: Asbestos inventory by remote sensing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Agforest, a leader in geospatial technology and sustainability, is proud to have collaborated with the City of Valladolid in a pioneering project to address the presence of asbestos in the municipality.<\/p>\n\n<p>This initiative is aligned with the fourteenth additional provision of Law 07\/2022 on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy, which requires municipalities to draw up a census of facilities and sites with asbestos, along with a timetable for its removal.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Innovation through Remote Sensing and AI<\/h2>\n\n<p>We use high-resolution satellite imagery and customized remote sensing and artificial intelligence tools to develop an accurate, non-invasive method for locating asbestos-containing structures.<\/p>\n\n<p>This approach avoids the risks associated with visual inspections and field sampling, optimizing time and resources.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prioritizing withdrawal intelligently<\/h2>\n\n<p>Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/agforest.ai\/censo-de-amianto\/\">asbestos inventory<\/a>, we have planned the removal prioritizing facilities according to potential risk, hazardousness, management, use, exposure to vulnerable population, age and useful life of the asbestos.<\/p>\n\n<p>The results revealed that 30.16% of the buildings in the municipality, or 10.35% of the built-up area, had asbestos coverings, significantly lower than the national average.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Detailed data for an informed citizenry<\/h2>\n\n<p>The census, which is accessible to the public, provides detailed data on the affected buildings. Of the 5,162 buildings identified, 54.9% are residential and 34.5% are industrial, mostly built in the 1960s and 1970s.<\/p>\n\n<p>Public buildings, including schools, have been cleared of asbestos by the Valladolid City Council.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/agforest.ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Caso-de-exito_Valladolid.jpg\" alt=\"Valladolid asbestos inventory success story\" class=\"wp-image-2176\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Citizen participation<\/h2>\n\n<p>We encourage citizen participation by means of an online notification mailbox to report possible previously undetected asbestos presence.<\/p>\n\n<p>This system allows neighbors to alert on any signs in downspouts, pipes or other elements.
